Should your OKRs align with the entire business or the departmental OKRs?

The answer is that your OKRs should align with the business and not just departmental OKRs. You might wish to have department-level goals, but the business level must be ON. Let us take an example to understand this better. If only your department does OKRs, having an OKR at the top of the department is completely fine. You can thus connect and align all the teams the right way. But OKRs should relate to the organization’s mission, vision, purpose, and values. Only then can you get the correct focus and alignment. If you are an organization that goes to the department level straight and fails to have an overarching objective, it creates problems.
